Hey--speaking of Neil, that Neil, I, as a biologist, had friends bird watching once in Marin County in the mid 70s, and chasing a life list species of some note, so they asked the fellow living in the house at the end of the long driveway where it went if they could trespass to see the bird of their dreams, and it was Neil who came to the door that early morning, and said, "hey, cool...of course...let me come out with you..." and they went off together to see some warbler or some such.

He was really nice one on one...

well, he lives further north than big sur [and pretty damn close as the crow flies to an infamous abode in La Honda] BUT his wife is playing the big sur fire brigade benefit this weekend and like her last (and first public) show at henry miller library, it's likely neil will join in along with ben keith and spooner oldham....

scroll down a bit - cool poster for same:

in county terms he lives in san mateo...

seeing the mention of secret phil shows had me thinking that I haven't heard of neil having one this summer...I guess it is because he hasn't been taking many breaks...

One my of my favorite neil memories is having about three early AM calls on a busy work day from friends screaming "neil is playing, neil is playing"...I said to one, get some tickets without ever giving the date much thought, thinking that it would be in four or five months...finally in the late afternoon around 5, I called the friend getting me a ticket and asked when the show was and he said 7:30 tonight...

that was a trip, going from a rough work day that I never thought would end to watching neil and crazy horse front section upper balcony at the warfield...it was a real special night to say the very least...plus he only charged 20 or 25 a ticket...

I got to see him in redwood city do the same thing a year or so after that....though that one didn't catch me completely off guard like the first one...

I guess when he was working on the album with the tin men he played on a regular basis at some joint on the peninsula...I would have loved to see one of those shows...

Damn...if I take credit for that what if you have a fat induced heart attack and sue me?

Oh well, lets think positively; bird dippings, but no moo juice or you'll piss off Rasta.

Ahh... I remember someone telling me Broken Arrow Ranch was in Big Sur. I see it's in the San Mateo hills or would that still be the SC mountains.... either way great place to setup shop.

Groovy poster for sure.

Wish I could be out in the land where the sun hits the water and the mountains meet the sand.
